WIGAN, M. R. (1978) Microfiche Archive Status report - August 1st 1978. Discussion Note DN 263. Australian Road Research Board, Vermont, Victoria.

Documents the complete archive of all ARRB reports and key documents since its inception up to 1978, and the processes subsequently adopted to maintain it subsequently. All fiche were of the highest silver halide master archival quality resulting in the complete recoverability of computer code, text and diagrams archived in this format (examples in this paper). All the fiche subsequently held in the ARRB library and the publications distribution section were first generation copies meeting these excellent standards. A complete collection of these first generation copy fiche (ie the first generation made from the masters) was carried in a small briefcase by the Executive Director to many places while a permanent archival collection in archival silver halide masters was set up for a continuing archive. For many years I inspected every fiche created for quality... we were advised that this was the first such comprehensive archive at this quality by any research organisation in the world.
